Calabozo del Diablo – Cajón del Maipo

In the Reserva Coyanco, we find this path full of nice natural pools on the way to this beautiful waterfall, called El Calabozo del Diablo, which is encased by high cliffs and has emerald waters.

The Reserva Coyanco is located in the Toyo sector, which has several pools and waterfalls where swimming and recreational fishing are allowed.

At about 3 to 4 hours from the entrance, you will find this waterfall, called Calabozo del Diablo, where you can cool off and contemplate its waters that have an emerald color when the sun touches its surface, and that is part of the Estero Coyanco.

You must cancel an entry of 5000 pesos per adult (value at the date of the post). This facility has a camping area, restrooms at the beginning of the route and you can stay for the night. It also has parking and they tell you that you can only leave until 9 pm or stay until the next day.

You can also access the entrance to Estero El Sauce, with no additional charge, by showing the bracelets and the payment ticket. In this place, you can also enjoy pools, waterfalls and the so-called Fuente Mágica or Cascada Doble.

How to get to the Reserva Coyanco?

You must cross the El Toyo bridge and, from there, walk or continue by vehicle to the entrance of the route that will appear at the left of the road.

To arrive by bus or taxi to El Toyo:

MB72 (Variant B), you should take it in the Intermodal Terminal of the Metro Bellavista de la Florida (line 5 – green), in the Metro Las Mercedes or Metro Plaza de Puente Alto (line 4 – blue).

Collective taxis depart from Metro Las Mercedes or Metro Plaza de Puente Alto (line 4 – blue).

In both cases, you must indicate to the driver that you are going to the Toyo bridge, in order to know where to get off.

To arrive by vehicle to El Toyo:

Type “Puente El Toyo” on Google Maps. You must enter the dirt road that is marked with a sign that says: “Reserva Coyanco”, first you will find the entrance of Estero El Sauce at about 200 meters and next the entrance of the Reserva Coyanco at the end of the road, there you will find another sign and the entrance to the parking lot.

Additional comments

It is a very beautiful place of relatively easy access, has other interesting routes that I was recommended to follow in winter, when there is more water.

At the entrance, you can ask for all the information they need. Similarly, remember to always take your trash, as the presence of it affects the influx of people to the place.

The places are very beautiful to take pictures and the pools are not as cold as others I have been in. I find very attractive the tall walls of rock and the color of its waters, that are very impressive in the resulting photos.

If you stay for the night, they recommend keeping your things inside the tent while you sleep.

Finally, I recommend enjoying this beautiful place. Until next time!
